Taking one for the team

What did I miss?

So last night I decided to take one for the team and skip the Flames game. I set my PVR and was supposed to play an exhibition game at 9:30, but I have been so exhausted lately I just decided to stay in... and go to bed at 10:30...

I was tossing and turning for the better part of the night wondering if I did the right thing by not staying up for the game. I worried for my PVR's record (for no reason apparently) getting tarnished, which I'm sure happens to all records when they have grown a life of their own and defied the odds. Like my brother finally winning on his 41st cup of coffee in this year's Tim Hortons 'Roll up the rim to play again' contest, I know it will eventually come to an end...

But not last night! 9-0! Booya!

I'm not sure when I'll actually get a chance to watch the game (as I'm in two ice hockey tournaments this weekend starting tomorrow night, and I have a playoff floor hockey game tonight), but I've already gotten a feel for what I missed from various sources around the Flames blogosphere...

Gio played and scored a goal, Phaneuf was cheapshotted by Dan Cleary (really starting to not like that guy), Amonte played the final minutes of the game AGAIN, Iggy scored the game winner, and the Saddledome was apparently rocking...

It appears as though our collective superstitiousness (is that a word) may have payed off last night...

As strange as it is to write these words, Amonte was actually freaking great last night. He made two all-world passes, helped set up the winner, and was solid defensively all night.

And yes, Cleary-on-Phaneuf looked an awful lot like a flying elbow to me.

I bow to the power of your PVR.

It'll be in use for the next two games as well, so let's just hope that its winning streak continues...

I think it's a word.

The PVR here was working as well. Double PVR power?

And dude - how much hockey can you play? Do you eat? Are you like Jack Bauer on 24? :)

GO ST's PVR !!!! :) i stayed in to watch with the cats, something i'd done during many wins in 04. halfway thru the third one of the cats came over for a cuddle, which (along with things outlined in my post) provided a certain calm.

superstitions rule.

I will also stay in the country for the remainder of the playoffs this year, as last year I left for a two week vacation in Scotland the afternoon of game 7 against the then Mighty Ducks...

No vacation planned for this year so far and I'm keeping it that way until June... ; )

If I could play more, I would...

I don't eat dinner, as I don't usually have time (and its a really bad idea to eat any less than 4 hours before hitting the ice) but I usually eat a big lunch...

I do keep going and going, but at last count, I have yet to kill anybody (that I know of)...

HG: ST might not eat dinner, but we're all aware of his ability to pack away the wings. ;)

Hey, postgame meals are different... :P

Both times I had played at least one hockey game before I hooked up with you guys, so I was more than a little hungry... ;)
